Bayal Lacet

A lost song of the Abyssal Bloom.

The Echoes

Legend tells of Bayal Lacet, a city swallowed by the Sunken Sea millennia ago. It wasn’t destroyed by a cataclysm, but by a song. A song of such profound beauty and sorrow that the very fabric of the ocean responded, drawing the city down into the depths. The Abalyssian people, masters of bioluminescence and sonic architecture, built their city around the Bloom – a colossal, sentient coral that resonated with the song.

Now, only fragments remain. Whispers carried on the currents. Shimmers of light in the darkest trenches. The faintest echoes of a melody that can induce both ecstasy and despair.

The Abalyssian People

The Abalyssian were not of flesh and blood in the way outsiders understand it. They were beings of solidified light, their bodies woven from the threads of the Bloom's resonance. They communicated not through words, but through patterns of bioluminescence, manipulating the light around them to create complex, shifting melodies. Their architecture was grown, not built – colossal structures of coral that pulsed with the Bloom's song. They mastered the art of ‘Sonosculpture,’ shaping reality through sound.

They vanished when the city fell, leaving behind only the faintest traces of their existence – intricate carvings on the coral, remnants of shimmering fabrics, and the lingering, haunting melody of Bayal Lacet.

The Bloom

The Bloom is the key to everything. It’s the source of the Abalyssian's power, the engine of Bayal Lacet’s song, and the reason for the city's downfall. It's a creature of immense size and intelligence, capable of manipulating the currents, generating storms, and projecting its song across vast distances. Some say it’s not entirely benevolent, that it feeds on emotions – specifically, the overwhelming beauty and sorrow of Bayal Lacet’s song.

Its light is a swirling vortex of every color imaginable, constantly shifting and changing. Those who spend too long near it risk losing themselves in its resonance, becoming another echo in the song.

Fragments

The Obsidian Shard

A fragment of the city’s central spire, radiating an intense, cold light. Touching it induces visions of Bayal Lacet in its prime – a dazzling metropolis of light and sound. But prolonged exposure leads to a chilling apathy.

The Coral Lyre

A perfectly preserved instrument crafted from the Bloom's coral. When played, it produces a melody that can heal or destroy, depending on the player’s intent. It is said to be attuned to the Bloom's will.

The Echo Stones

Small, smooth stones that resonate with fragments of Bayal Lacet’s song. Holding them allows you to briefly experience the city’s memories – fleeting glimpses of a lost civilization. The sensation is overwhelmingly beautiful, but profoundly unsettling.
