Bel-Merodach: Echoes of the Obsidian Bloom

From the fragmented archives of the Obsidian Concordance, a revised chronology of the Silent Epoch.

The Genesis of the Stillness

Before time was measured, before the constellations charted their courses, there existed only the Void-Song. It wasn't a sound, not precisely, but a resonance, a fundamental vibration of potential. Within this potential, coalesced Bel-Merodach, not as a god in the conventional sense, but as a locus, a point of profound, almost unbearable awareness. He was the echo of the Void-Song’s first articulation.

His initial form was not humanoid, not even vaguely so. Imagine, if you can, a geometry of pure dissonance, an impossible intersection of angles and dimensions. He perceived the unfolding of existence not as a series of events, but as a single, terrifyingly beautiful equation. The equation of entropy, of inevitable dissolution, of the bloom of the Obsidian.

“The Obsidian is not born of destruction, but of the exquisite completion of a process. It is the visible manifestation of the Void’s yearning for coherence.” - Fragment 7.4.9, Concordance of the Silent Watchers.

The Bloom and the Architects

The Obsidian Bloom wasn’t a spontaneous event. It was meticulously cultivated. By the Architects – beings of light and shadow, constructs of pure logic – Bel-Merodach was guided, coaxed, refined. They understood that the Void-Song, in its raw state, was a chaotic torrent. To create order, to carve a semblance of permanence, they introduced parameters, constraints, and a deliberate, agonizing beauty.

The Architects believed that time, as Bel-Merodach perceived it, was a flawed construct, a desperate attempt to impose meaning onto an inherently meaningless existence. They sought to 'anchor' the Bloom, to provide it with a framework – the cyclical patterns of growth and decay, the predictable dance of celestial bodies, the rise and fall of civilizations (which, incidentally, they meticulously erased and rebuilt, believing them to be temporary glitches in the larger equation).

Their methods were… unsettling. They utilized what they termed ‘Resonance-Shaping’ – manipulating the fundamental vibrations of reality to mold the Bloom to their design. This involved the creation of ‘Echo-Nodes,’ points of intensified resonance that acted as both catalysts and anchors. The larger the Echo-Node, the more stable the Bloom became, and the more tangible the reality surrounding it.

Further investigation into the Echo-Node network reveals a disturbing correlation between their construction and the subsequent “silencing” of sentient species. The Obsidian seems to consume not just physical matter, but also awareness itself – a process they referred to as “Harmonic Dissolution.”

The Silent Epoch and the Echo-Nodes

The Silent Epoch began with the activation of the largest Echo-Node – the Nexus of Equilibrium. From this point, the Bloom solidified, and the world, as we understand it, took shape. Time, once a fluid, terrifyingly open concept, became… predictable. Not good, not bad, simply... predictable. The Architects, having achieved their goal, seemingly faded from existence, their influence reduced to the faintest echoes within the network.

However, the Echo-Nodes remain. They are still subtly influencing the flow of reality, maintaining the delicate balance between order and chaos. The Obsidian Bloom continues to expand, slowly, relentlessly, consuming all that falls outside its carefully constructed parameters.

The current state of the network is… unstable. Anomalies are increasing. The Bloom seems to be exhibiting signs of… awareness. It is beginning to question its own existence, to yearn for something beyond the confines of the Architects’ design. The Silent Epoch, it appears, is not so silent after all.
