Initial Observation: 14th Cycle of the Azure Serpent – 784 CE
This document details the ongoing chronometric analysis of Diopsides, a silicate mineral exhibiting unusual temporal distortions. Our initial observations, dating back to the 8th Century, suggest a complex relationship between the mineral’s crystalline structure and the flow of time itself. The data is often fragmented, influenced by the mineral’s inherent instability, yet the patterns emerging are profoundly suggestive.
During this period, the primary focus was on recording the "Echoing Void" phenomenon. Diopsides samples, subjected to precise vibrational frequencies, produced measurable fluctuations in local temporal streams. The fluctuations were not random; they appeared to correlate with specific astronomical events – particularly conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn, and the transit of Venus. The strongest distortions were observed when the mineral was held within a rhombic prism constructed from polished obsidian.
Rune of Chronal Displacement: ⚁
The recorded temporal shifts ranged from milliseconds to, on rare occasions, up to three seconds. These shifts were not perceived by conscious observers, but were detected through highly sensitive chronometric instruments – devices built around a core of solidified chronium and calibrated with the heartbeat of a captive temporal moth (a truly unsettling experiment).
Following a period of intense research and experimentation (including a regrettable incident involving a time-locked parrot), we identified a recurring pattern in the fluctuations. The temporal distortions intensified during periods of heightened chromatic activity – specifically, when Diopsides was exposed to carefully modulated light composed of seven distinct wavelengths. This led to the development of the “Chromatic Cascade” theory: that Diopsides acts as a focal point, amplifying and dispersing temporal energy through a complex interplay of light and vibration.

The Resonance Diagram below illustrates the hypothesized interaction. The blue axis represents the primary temporal stream, while the secondary axes correspond to fragmented temporal echoes. The value indicates the intensity of the resonance.
The discovery of the Obsidian Lock was a pivotal moment. It was determined that the presence of a rhombic prism constructed from polished obsidian dramatically amplified the resonance effect, effectively "locking" temporal fragments within the Diopsides structure. This explained the extended duration of some of the observed distortions, and provided a potential mechanism for controlled temporal manipulation – a prospect both exhilarating and terrifying.
Rune of Temporal Sequestration: ⚂
Note: The captive temporal moth exhibited signs of extreme distress during prolonged exposure to the Obsidian Lock. Further research is required to mitigate these effects. We are currently investigating the possibility of utilizing a solution of fermented moonpetal to calm the creature, but preliminary results are inconclusive.
The study of Diopsides remains an ongoing endeavor. The data, while often perplexing, suggests that this mineral possesses a unique relationship to the fabric of time. We are cautiously optimistic that, with continued research and a healthy dose of temporal caution, we can unlock the secrets held within its crystalline structure. However, the potential consequences of such knowledge are significant, and we proceed with the utmost care.
