The Haemat-Peerage isn't a lineage in the conventional sense. It’s a resonance, a distortion of time itself, centered around the 'Crimson Echoes'. These echoes manifest as individuals subtly altered by a confluence of ancient blood magic, temporal anomalies, and a forgotten deity known only as ‘The Weaver’. The first recorded manifestation was in the year 1487, within the crumbling walls of Blackwood Manor, a place perpetually shrouded in mist and rumor.
Legend speaks of a scholar named Elias Thorne, obsessed with uncovering the secrets of the ‘Veridian Codex’ – a text rumored to contain the key to manipulating time. Thorne’s experiments, fuelled by a potent mixture of rare herbs and a desperate yearning for knowledge, triggered the initial Crimson Echo. He didn't vanish, not entirely. He fractured, his consciousness becoming interwoven with the temporal currents, existing as a fragmented presence within the echoes.
Following Thorne’s initial fracturing, three individuals – Isolde Blackwood, Master Alaric Vance, and Seraphina Moreau – became irrevocably bound to the Crimson Echo. Isolde, a descendant of the Blackwood family, possessed a latent ability to perceive temporal distortions. Alaric, a cartographer obsessed with charting the shifting landscapes of time, developed an uncanny ability to 'step' into moments of the past. Seraphina, a skilled alchemist, learned to harness the echoes, crafting potent elixirs capable of accelerating or decelerating the flow of time for herself and others.
The Weaver is theorized to be a primordial entity, existing outside of linear time. It’s believed to have created the Veridian Codex, not as a tool for control, but as a means of observing the myriad possibilities of existence. When the Codex was misused, unleashing temporal chaos, The Weaver responded, shaping the Crimson Echoes as a means of containing the damage. The echoes themselves are paradoxical - they represent moments of both potential and ruin, attracting individuals drawn to the allure of rewriting history, often with catastrophic consequences.
Several significant paradoxes have emerged due to the actions of the Crimson Peers. The ‘Blackwood Regression’ – a localized temporal loop trapping Blackwood Manor in a perpetual cycle of 1487. ‘The Vance Fracture’ – a schism in Alaric Vance’s consciousness, leading to him existing in multiple points in time simultaneously. And ‘Moreau’s Stasis’ – Seraphina Moreau’s attempt to freeze a dying loved one, resulting in her own permanent temporal suspension.
Today, the Crimson Peers are scattered across time, operating in the shadows, attempting to mitigate temporal damage and, often, pursuing their own agendas. Their existence is a constant struggle against the relentless march of time, a desperate attempt to preserve the fragile fabric of reality. Rumours persist of a new generation of Crimson Peers emerging, drawn to the echoes, destined to either save or shatter the timeline forever.
