The Echoes of Letto-Slavic

Origins – Whispers from the Obsidian Peaks

The history of Letto-Slavic is not one of conquest or dominion, but of quiet convergence. It began not in grand empires, but in the shadowed valleys nestled beneath the Obsidian Peaks – a range said to be formed from the solidified tears of forgotten gods. The Letto-Slavic people, the 'Kro’va’sh’e’’, as they called themselves, were a nomadic folk, deeply attuned to the rhythms of the earth and the whispers of the wind. They were not Slavic in any recognizable sense, nor were they entirely ‘Letto’ – the term, derived from the archaic word ‘Le’t’o’ – referred to their complex relationship with the echoes of reality, a concept central to their beliefs.

Their language, Kro’va’sh’e’’, wasn’t born from a single root but from the layered resonances of countless forgotten dialects. It was a language of feeling, of subtle shifts in tone and inflection, capable of conveying not just meaning, but also the emotional weight of a memory, the texture of a dream.

The Resonance Weavers

Central to the Kro’va’sh’e’’’ culture were the Resonance Weavers – individuals who possessed an extraordinary sensitivity to the ‘echoes’ – remnants of events, emotions, and even the thoughts of those who had passed. These echoes weren't ghostly apparitions, but rather a tangible force, a shimmering layer overlaid upon the world. The Weavers learned to manipulate this force, using it for healing, divination, and even, controversially, to influence the immediate environment.

Legend says that the first Weaver, Anya'kh’a’’, discovered the art while attempting to soothe the grief of a dying stag. The stag’s final moments, saturated with sorrow, resonated powerfully, and Anya’kh’a’’’ instinctively channeled this resonance, calming the beast and, it was whispered, briefly glimpsing the stag’s entire life – its hunts, its loves, its fears.

“The world isn’t seen, it’s *felt*. And the echoes… they are the bones of the world, holding the weight of all that has been, and all that will be.” – Elder Zyl’a’kh’a’’.

The Chronicle of the Shifting Sands

The chronicle of the Kro’va’sh’e’’’ is not written in stone, but woven into the very fabric of their existence. It is a fragmented collection of oral traditions, ritualistic dances, and the subtle shifts in the landscape itself. The following is a reconstruction based on recovered fragments, pieced together over centuries by scholars of the Obsidian Academy.

The Sundering of the First Echo

Approximately 700 years ago, a catastrophic event, known as the Sundering, irrevocably altered the landscape and the nature of the echoes. A powerful Weaver, seeking to amplify a particularly potent echo – the grief of a lost king – inadvertently triggered a cascade of destabilization. The echoes fractured, becoming wilder, more unpredictable, and far more dangerous. This event marked the beginning of the ‘Age of Discord’.

The Rise of the Shadow Wardens

In response to the growing instability, a new order emerged – the Shadow Wardens. These warriors, trained to suppress and contain the chaotic echoes, developed specialized armor and weaponry designed to disrupt the resonance. Their methods were brutal, often involving the deliberate infliction of pain to sever the connection between individuals and the echoes. This led to a deep schism within the Kro’va’sh’e’’’ society.

The Pact of the Silent Peaks

After generations of conflict, a fragile peace was brokered with the signing of the Pact of the Silent Peaks. This agreement established strict limitations on the practice of Resonance Weaving and established a council to oversee the use of the echoes. The agreement, however, was constantly tested by the inherent instability of the echoes and the enduring tensions between the Weavers and the Shadow Wardens.

Legacy – A Whispered Promise

Today, the Kro’va’sh’e’’’ are scattered, their culture diminished, but their legacy persists in the hidden valleys of the Obsidian Peaks. Some scholars believe that the echoes, though diminished, still linger, waiting to be rediscovered. The whispers of Letto-Slavic, a language of feeling and resonance, continue to echo through the ages, a reminder of a time when the veil between realities was thin, and the world was seen – and felt – in a way that is almost forgotten.
