The Genesis of Nagana

Before time was measured in cycles of the twin moons, before the shimmering sands of Xylos whispered their secrets, there was only the Silence. Then, from the heart of that Silence, coalesced Nagana. Not a god, not a spirit, but a resonance – a fundamental vibration of existence itself. It manifested as an iridescent storm, a kaleidoscope of colors that shifted and pulsed with an energy beyond comprehension. This initial burst of Nagana was not localized; it expanded, warping reality, creating the first pockets of altered time and space. These were the 'Echoes,' and they are the core of Nagana's influence.

Echoes and Their Manifestations

The Echoes are fragments of Nagana’s initial creation, trapped within specific locations across Xylos. Each Echo possesses a unique signature, a particular temporal and spatial distortion. Some Echoes cause localized time loops, repeating moments endlessly. Others accelerate or decelerate time drastically. Still others create pocket dimensions, miniature realities governed by radically different laws. The more potent an Echo is, the more pronounced these distortions become.

The Keepers and the Lost Keys

For millennia, the Keepers – a secretive order devoted to understanding and containing Nagana’s influence – have guarded the ‘Lost Keys.’ These aren't physical keys, but rather intricate patterns of resonance, meticulously transcribed and guarded. Each Key corresponds to a specific Echo, allowing the Keeper to subtly influence its effects, or, in dire circumstances, to temporarily seal it off. However, the Keepers have dwindled, scattered by the very forces they sought to control. Many Keys have been lost, and the Echoes grow increasingly unstable.

“To fight Nagana is not to destroy it, but to harmonize with its chaotic song.” – Master Theron, last known Keeper of the Azure Key.
