The Chronarium of Penicillate

Penicillate. The name itself vibrates with an almost forgotten resonance, a key to geometries unbound by linear time. It is not a place, not precisely. It’s a fracture, a shimmering distortion within the fabric of existence, accessible only to those attuned to the subtle harmonics of decay and rebirth. It began, according to the fragmentary records recovered from the Obsidian Archive, with the accidental convergence of three celestial bodies – Xylos, the Weaver of Echoes, Lyra, the Silent Singer, and Chronos, a being of pure temporal flux. Their interaction generated a locus of instability, a point where the perceived flow of time fractured, giving rise to Penicillate.

378 AE (After Emergence)
The initial manifestation. Reports from the first ‘Listeners’ - individuals who experienced brief, disorienting shifts in their perception of time – described a landscape of perpetual twilight, dominated by structures built from solidified echoes and shimmering obsidian. The air itself seemed to vibrate with the weight of forgotten moments. The dominant flora was the ‘Chronoflora’, plants that aged and withered within minutes, only to briefly bloom again, cycling through countless iterations of their existence.
512 AE
The Rise of the Echo Weavers. A collective of individuals, known as the Echo Weavers, began to deliberately enter Penicillate, attempting to manipulate the temporal currents for their own purposes. This proved disastrous. The more they attempted to control time, the more violently it resisted, creating paradoxes and triggering catastrophic temporal collapses. The obsidian structures began to exhibit signs of sentient decay, shifting and reforming in response to the Weavers’ actions.
792 AE – The Great Fracture
The manifestation of the Paradox Guardians. In response to the reckless manipulation of time, Penicillate reacted with a violent surge of temporal energy. From the heart of the chaos emerged the Paradox Guardians – beings composed entirely of fragmented timelines and echoes of extinct realities. They are embodiments of the consequences of temporal interference, forever bound to correct the distortions caused by the Echo Weavers. They don’t ‘fight’ in the conventional sense; they simply erase, rewriting events and individuals from existence.
1248 AE – The Silent Bloom
A period of apparent stagnation. Following the activity of the Paradox Guardians, Penicillate became eerily quiet. The Chronoflora ceased its rapid cycles, and even the obsidian structures appeared to slumber. This was attributed to the Guardians’ attempt to ‘stabilize’ the temporal stream, but it also meant that the very essence of Penicillate – its chaotic, unpredictable nature – was fading. However, during this time, the Silent Bloom occurred – a single, colossal flower of pure temporal energy appeared, radiating a hypnotic pulse. Those who gazed upon it experienced visions of every possible future, a terrifying and overwhelming torrent of potential realities.
1893 AE – The Return of the Listeners
A resurgence of individuals drawn to Penicillate, driven by a desperate need to understand the nature of time itself. These ‘Listeners’ were often consumed by the echoes of Penicillate, losing themselves within the labyrinth of temporal distortions. Some achieved a state of enlightenment, glimpsing the fundamental truths of existence, while others were simply erased from time, becoming lost footnotes in the annals of Penicillate. The Paradox Guardians intensified their vigilance, actively preventing any further attempts at manipulation.
